Phyllis M. Schaffer, 96, of Jackson, TN, formerly of Creston, died October 26, 2017.

A Memorial Mass for Phyllis will be held in Creston, IA on November 21, 2017 at 10 AM at Holy Spirit Catholic Church. Fr. Ken Halbur will officiate. There will be a Graveside service shortly after the mass at the Mount Zion Cemetery, 4 miles north of Prescott . A Funeral Mass was held at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Jackson, TN. Father Graham officiated. Memorials can be given to St. Malachy's School. Online condolences can be left at

Phyllis Margaret Schaffer was born February 24, 1921, in Union County, Iowa to Jessie (Madison) and Albert Eugene McCann. Phyllis graduated from Creston High School in 1939.

On August of 1942, Phyllis was united in marriage to Leo W. Schaffer at St. Malachy Catholic Church in Creston. They settled in Creston where she worked as a waitress at the Creston Depot and later worked as an assembler at Gits Manufacturing for 45 years, retiring in 1986. Phyllis moved to Jackson, TN in 2005. While living in Creston she was an active member of the Holy Spirit Catholic Church. She was a loving Mother and Grandmother who always made sure everyone was well taken care of. She will be greatly missed.

Phyllis is survived by a daughter Sherry (husband Ronald) Thomson of Jackson, TN; three grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. Phyllis was preceded in death by her parents and siblings, and her husband Leo.

Sherry So sorry to learn of your mom's passing and had plans to attend her mass this morning but had to many things come up. always enjoyed waiting on her at bank for so many years. Prayers to you and your family.

Sherry and family: I am so so saddened to hear of the passing of my dear friend phyllis. She was one amazing lady and I was so honored to have known her through bluegrass credit union. It was my pleasure. May she rest in peace and may God grant comfort to those who will miss this great lady.
